-
- XWCOOL is a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program that will
- work with the ThrustMaster FCS(PFCS) allowing you to program the Hat
- and Buttons 3 and 4 to any keystroke on the keyboard, (including
- SHFT/CTRL/ALT keys). You can also program "double-click" funtions to
- any button or hat position. For example: By default the Hat is
- programmed to switch between forward, back, right and left views
- depending on what direction you push it. If you push the Hat up twice,
- it will switch to something else.
-
- To program your FCS(PFCS), I supplied a small program called
- XWKEY.COM. This program will ask you to press which keystroke you want
- for each Hat position and Button. After you make your keystroke
- selections, it will write a file named XWCOOL.CFG. This file must be
- in the same directory as XWCOOL.COM when you load it. If XWCOOL can't
- find the XWCOOL.CFG file, it assumes you want to use the defaults and
- returns an error code.
-
- You MUST run XWKEY.COM the first time you use XWCOOL in order to
- configure the hat switch and two extra buttons. XWKEY will step you
- thru the process and will create XWCOOL.CFG which XWCOOL will read
- when you run it. Then, the only time you have to run XWKEY again is
- if you wish to change the assigned keypresses.
-
- If you have already configured your FCS(PFCS) hat and buttons
- previously, XWCOOL.COM will use those keypresses stored in XWCOOL.CFG
- so when you run it again you do not need to reconfigure the hat and
- buttons again unless you wish to change them.
-
- You must store XWCOOL.COM, & XWKEY.COM in the same directory you
- have the Xwing files in. XWKEY will create XWCOOL.CFG and store it in
- that directory as well.
-
- No modification is required to the Host program. Simply run the
- XWCOOL program, or use LOADHIGH to load it into high memory. The first
- step is to calibrate your Hat. Just follow the on-screen instructions,
- this only takes a few seconds. Next XWCOOL will check to see if the
- XWCOOL.CFG file is available, if so it will program the Hat and
- Buttons. After XWCOOL is loaded it will automatically check to see if
- a Host is running. If a Host is running it will automatically "attach"
- itself. If a Host is not running, it will simply lay dormant in memory
- until it senses a Host. To Un-install XWCOOL, just execute the
- XWCOOL.COM program a second time. This will remove the TSR from memory.
-
- XWCOOL will work with the following programs:
-
- XWING
- XWING + IMPERIAL PURSUIT
- XWING + IMPERIAL PURSUIT + IMPERIAL PURSUIT PATCH 1A (targeting fix)
- XWING + IMPERIAL PURSUIT + IP PATCH 1A + BWING
- XWING + IMPERIAL PURSUIT + BWING
-
- XWCOOL will return the following ERRORLEVEL's for BATCH file processing:
-
- ERRORLEVEL 1 = Configuration file not loaded
- ERRORLEVEL 2 = Calibration Error
-
- This utility is not supported by LucasArts in any way so if you

-
- Summary procedure:
-
- The FIRST time you use XWCOOL and any time you wish to change the keys
- that are assigned to the hat and buttons 3 and 4 on your
- ThrustMaster (P)FCS:
-
- 1. Run XWKEY and program the hat and buttons to produce the single or
- double-press keys you want it to produce. XWKEY will produce
- XWCOOL.CFG.
-
- 2. Run XWCOOL (use LH XWCOOL) and it will ask you to calibrate. Note,
- you will not see the keypresses produced at the dos prompt since
- XWCOOL will look for the host program (Xwing) first to be resident
- in memory. If it does not see it, it will remain dormant in memory
- until you start Xwing.
-
- 3. Run Xwing.
-
- 4. Type XWCOOL again upon exiting Xwing and XWCOOL will remove itself
- from memory.
-
-
- Any time after the first time you use XWCOOL, you only need to do the
- following if you do not want to first change the keys that you have
- assigned to the hat and buttons 3 and 4 on your ThrustMaster (P)FCS:
-
- 1. Run XWCOOL. Use LH XWCOOL.
-
- 2. Run Xwing.
-
- 3. Type XWCOOL again upon exiting Xwing and XWCOOL will remove itself
- from memory.
-
- How to create a batch file to load XWCOOL and run Xwing and unload XWCOOL
- upon exiting Xwing:
-
- Using DOS' EDIT.COM, make a batch file that looks like this and store it
- in the same directory you have the Xwing program files in:
-
- lh xwcool
- xwing
- xwcool
-
- Use SAVE AS from the File menu at the top in EDIT.COM to save the file
- as something with a name you will remember - like - XW.BAT.
